Privacy Policy
Last updated September 20, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how RadarBug LLC ("RadarBug," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use radarbug.app and its weather-map features. RadarBug does not require you to create an account.
1. Information We Handle
Location information. If you grant browser location permission, RadarBug receives your device's coordinates to center the map, request a local forecast, identify nearby weather alerts, and calculate lightning proximity. You can use the site without granting precise location permission, although location-based features will be limited.
Information stored in your browser. RadarBug uses browser local storage to remember settings such as map position and zoom, selected weather layers, a saved home location, forecast-panel preferences, and display colors.
Technical and usage information. When your browser requests this site or connects to service providers, RadarBug's hosting provider and those third parties may automatically receive information such as your IP address, browser and device type, language, referring page, requested URL, and request date and time. Advertising providers may also use cookies, web beacons, device identifiers, and similar technologies as described below.
Communications. If you email us, we receive the address and information you choose to include in your message.
2. How We Use Information
We use information to operate and secure the site; render maps, radar, forecasts, rainfall, lightning, tropical-weather and alert layers; remember your choices; diagnose technical problems; respond to support requests; comply with legal obligations; and display and measure advertising where permitted.
Location and saved-home coordinates are used to provide the features you request. RadarBug stores preferences in your browser rather than requiring an account-based profile.
3. Service Providers and Information Sharing
Your browser connects directly to providers needed to deliver site features. Depending on the features you use, these providers include:
- Google for Google Maps Platform, Google Fonts, Google AdSense, and Funding Choices consent management.
- NOAA, the National Weather Service, and the National Hurricane Center for public alerts, observations, precipitation, and tropical-weather information.
- Iowa State Mesonet, Open-Meteo, RainViewer, and Blitzortung for radar, forecast, and lightning information.
- Website hosting and infrastructure providers that deliver and protect the site.
These providers may process technical information and, when needed for a requested location-based feature, coordinates included in service requests. Their handling of information is governed by their own privacy policies. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights or safety, or in connection with a business reorganization.
4. Advertising, Cookies, and Similar Technologies
This site uses Google AdSense. Third-party vendors and ad networks, including Google and its advertising partners, may serve ads on the site and use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, device identifiers, and similar technologies to deliver, personalize, limit, and measure advertising.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads based on visits to this site and other sites. Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services in Google's partner-sites policy. You can review Google's advertising technology providers, manage Google ad personalization through Google Ads Settings, and learn about additional industry opt-out choices at YourAdChoices.
Where required, RadarBug uses Google's Funding Choices consent platform to request consent before using advertising cookies or personal data for personalized advertising. Select Privacy and cookie choices at the top of this page or on the weather map to review or change available choices.
5. Your Privacy Choices
- You can deny or revoke location permission in your browser settings.
- You can remove RadarBug preferences and saved locations by clearing this site's cookies and site data in your browser.
- You can review available advertising consent choices using the privacy-choice link on this site.
- You can control personalized Google advertising through Google Ads Settings and other participating advertising providers through their opt-out pages.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or information about certain processing. Contact us to make a request. We may need to verify the request and may retain information where permitted or required by law.
6. Retention
Browser-saved settings remain on your device until you change them or clear site data. Support communications are retained only as reasonably necessary to respond, keep business records, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations. Hosting, advertising, mapping, and weather-data providers retain information according to their own policies and legal requirements.
7. Data Security and International Processing
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect information. No internet transmission or storage method is completely secure. Because the site uses providers operating in multiple countries, information may be processed outside your state, province, or country under the safeguards used by those providers.
8. Children's Privacy
RadarBug is a general-audience weather service and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly request personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information directly to us, contact us so we can address the request.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy when site features, providers, or legal requirements change. The date at the top identifies the latest revision.
